Paper Bird

It's time for an Album of the Week! I know it's been a while, but I've been brewing up a nice batch of fresh tunes. The band that produced this week's album is called Paper Bird, they're a little big band out of Boulder, Colorado, I say little big because they have 7 members and aren't that well known... yet.

The album is called Anything Nameless and Joymaking which was released back in 2007. I've actually been listening to it on repeat for the last 5 or so days, it's amazing. It's Indie Rock, Folk, kind of Indie Pop, and has some very obvious Jazz influences, but early Jazz with the banjo and all. My favorite tracks from it are Livin Lucky, which has become my theme song of late, it's incredibly up beat and fun, but not overbearingly so. Another great is Bumblebee which isn't on youtube, so go here and check it out. Then there's Pennies and my second favorite song off of the album, Jesus and Arizona, once again no good video on youtube.

Do yourself a favor and buy this album. Notice, I said BUY, don't download this one, it's a small band and they're great. Also, make everyone you know buy it too because it's amazing and they deserve to get big.

Keep on keepin' on

Song Of The Day

Today I was in my local album store, looking through the old vinyl when I found this box full of free posters. If you don't know this about me I absolutely love posters, so I was pretty excited to say the least. I 'm going through it and snagging some great posters, Ha Ha Tonka, Dr. Dog, The Antlers etc. While going through this box, I kept seeing this poster for a band I hadn't heard of, but it was a cool poster so I grabbed it. I got home and decided to look up the band -Sonny and the Sunsets- and found that I really like them. So here's your song of the day.

Song Of The Day

It's the last day of high school here in Boulder, Colorado! Here's the song of the day, and I promise it's not Alice Cooper. It's got a solid groove, more than a solid groove, it's got a helluva groove.

Mashed Potatoes

Mashups, they're pretty cool conceptually, but there are a lot of terrible mashups out there, so, I've decided to put together a list of some of my favorites. (there are going to be a lot from Tupac so get ready for that). If you don't know, a mashup is a combination of at least two songs into one song (the background from song A with the lyrics from song B and so on)

I'm not going to put up that many though, only my favorites.

1. Thugz Mansion x Tears In Heaven - Tupac Shakur v Eric Clapton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIlD1cuFiHY

2. Tupachelbel's Canon (Dear Mama x Canon In D) - Tupac Shakur v Johan Pachelbel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9eaJvkIv-A

3. Octopus's Santeria (Octopus's Garden x Santeria) - The Beatles v Sublime http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URCAaQbCsMA

Hope you like those

Song Of The Day

I don't know why, but this song seems to be perfect for my day today. Just goofy and a little off and a throwback. Eiffel 65, so rad. This brings back memories for me of after school programs and elementary school parties.

Song Of The Day

I know a lot of you don't like dubstep, but I do. I also like Indie rock, and so today is a great combination for me. Seven Lions remix of Florence + The Machine's Cosmic Love is so cool. I love this kind of dubstep.

Song Of The Day

Rock and Roll, it will never die! This song makes me want to climb a skyscraper, take off my shirt and scream that into the night. West Water Outlaws was shown to me by my student teacher in one of my classes this year who, as it turns out is the band manager. This is real Rock and Roll, hell it's Rock 'n' Roll.

Song Of The Day

Slow Club is a British Folk-Rock duo that I've recently gotten obsessed with. The song I'm choosing from them today isn't really my favorite song by the two, but I really like the music video and the song's pretty nice.

First Aid Kit

Sweden, a country known for it's meatballs and unfair take over of the beautiful country Norway and not much else, has recently given the world something absolutely incredible. A while back on youtube there was a cover of Fleet Foxes Tiger Mountain Peasant Song  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMrqBldlqzA by two adorable sisters. The video got huge and so did First Aid Kit.
This review is of their newest album The Lion's Roar which is absolutely gorgeous. They do really nice acoustic, folky kind of stuff with great harmonization. They're really pretty minimalistic  but in such way that you don't really realize it. A great example is from the title track of the album The Lion's Roar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gekHV9DIjHc and another of my favorites I Found A Way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1b2c90hgtI but the whole album is really great. Check this band out on the interwebs, cause all of their stuff is great.
That's all for now,
Keep on listening to music and loving art,
Stephen

Song Of The Day

If there's one thing that gets me through the morning it's Indie Pop. The beautiful thing about Indie Pop is that it's fast, happy music that you don't have to be embarrassed about listening to, because let's be honest Pop music is so awesome, but I will never admit that... Today's song is from Jukebox The Ghost and is a true Indie Pop gem.
